GPS Mapping

If the most recently recorded position isn’t particularly recent, it probably means we’re out of wireless network range and the webserver can’t update our status.

Here is our most recently recorded position:

How our GPS tracking system works:

1. A GPS-enabled Mobile Phone in the pocket of one of the cyclists gets their current position from GPS satellites.
2. The GPS Mobile Phone sends the GPS-position data to a Nextel mobile phone tower.
3. The Nextel phone tower sends the GPS-position data to web servers.
4. The web servers parse the data and put it in a format that you can view here on the web using Google Maps.
